As mentioned in a previous blog post, PurePhoto is working with Amy Peltier of A. Peltier Interiors Inc. who is designing the sitting room in the Carriage House in this year’s Pasadena Showcase House of Design. When we first sat down with Amy to discuss options for art, she presented us with her boards outlining both the room elevation and color schemes to help us envision the space.
We talked in depth about finding a piece of art that would work well with Amy’s “traditional with a modern edge” design aesthetic. This got us thinking….wouldn’t it be great to share this experience of the design process from beginning to end with our readers?

Elevation Board
Taking a look at the elevation board, it is clear that we have an opportunity to print something large-scale. As Amy put it, “I feel like this should be a conversation piece”. It is easy to make a statement with a large piece of art, but you have to be careful not to let the art become overpowering in the space. With that said, we decided on a 4’ high by 6’ wide print and took a look at Amy’s design board for more inspiration.

Taking a look at this design board we were able to gain a better understanding of Amy’s “traditional with a modern edge” style. With the large chairs being covered in a (fabulous) floral print, we both decided it would be best to avoid photographs of flowers and any sort of traditional-looking landscape. The bold print and the earth-toned colors and fabrics offer many different textures and layers to the space. It was at this point that we decided a large-scale black and white photograph would make a perfect statement in this area.
We don’t want to give too much away! Although we should tell you that Amy has decided on a gorgeous black and white print for the space. We are very excited about being a part of this project and having the opportunity to see this room evolve.
