You'll be seeing a lot of PurePhoto artist Kate Schermerhorn soon - her work is being featured on Apple's new "Shot on iPhone 6S" campaign!
Last year, Apple demonstrated the power and capabilities of the iPhone 6 camera by using images shot with the smartphone in a massive billboard campaign. This year, Apple is reviving their "Shot on iPhone" campaign for the 6S with 53 images from 41 amateurs and professional photographers from all over the globe who created images using the new iPhone 6S and 6S Plus.
This years campaign shifts from macros and landscapes to portraits, most which capture life's little moments.
Artist Kate Schermerhorn has two pieces which are already up on billboards that span 85 cities in 26 countries.
We caught up with Kate to ask her about the campaign.
PurePhoto: How exciting is it for your work to be up on billboards?
Kate Schermerhorn: It's been really fun to see my work (and my daughter!) so huge, and also to see it in my own city where I've been driving by it regularly. Friends are sending me photos of billboards from other cities and I loved seeing "Shot on iPhone" in Italian from the one in Milan. Hopefully someone will send me one written in Mandarin or Thai!
PurePhoto: How excited is your daughter to be up on billboards? That has to be pretty cool for her!
Kate Schermerhorn: It's been pretty exciting for Leila! On the first night the billboards went up, a friend sent me a photo of the first one to appear in San Francisco where we live. It was 9 o'clock on a school night, but we drove down to Union Square to see it. Leila stood in her pajamas in the middle of the square staring at the billboard and kept saying, "I can't believe that's me!"
PurePhoto: It's got to be a little bit surreal.
Kate Schermerhorn: Definitely a little surreal! I actually think the quality of the iPhone image is pretty surreal, too. I can't get over how much detail a little phone can capture.
PurePhoto: Your fine art work is primarily landscapes and details. Is your daughter your primary subject for your iPhone photography?
Kate Schermerhorn: I can't say that my daughter, Leila, is my primary iPhone subject, but both of my children have suffered through a LOT of picture-taking over the years. Several years ago, a photo of my son peeing was used on a Puddle of Mudd album cover, which sold over 5 million copies. He now doesn't let me take as many photos of him as he did back then!
