Emmy-winning filmmaker and photographer, Kate Schermerhorn's photos have been published worldwide, including in The Independent, Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, O Magazine, Times of London, and Granta, and used by clients including Sony, GE, and Interscope Records. Kate is the author of America's Idea of a Good Time (Dewi Lewis), a photography book looking at the American pursuit of happiness. Her work has been exhibited at The Victoria and Albert Museum, the Royal Photographic Society, and Yossi Milo Gallery, among many others.

Kate’s first feature documentary film, Seeking 1906, won her an Emmy for directing in 2007, as well as a nomination for best historical/cultural feature. The San Francisco Chronicle described the film as "sublime and fascinating". Kate’s second hour long documentary, ‘After Happily Ever After’, about modern marriage, won the Council for the Contemporary Family Media award in 2012. Kate has directed over one hundred videos for clients ranging from UCSF to the Center for Justice and Accountability. In 2014 Kate’s work won two Telly Awards and was nominated for a Maggie. Kate is an occasional blogger for The Huffington Post.

Kate was born in New York and raised in Malibu, California. She has lived and worked in Los Angeles, Florence, Hong Kong, rural Scotland, and after living for seven years in London, now lives outside of San Francisco.
