What brings out the inner artist? For Kerri Rosenthal it happened when she became intrigued by a series of paintings she came across. Unable to get the visual out of her head, she woke up the next morning and bought a canvas and acrylic paints. She went to her basement and started creating….one year later, after diligently researching and studying the works of Wolf Kahn, Joan Mitchell, Willem de Kooning and Jackson Pollock, among others, she found herself with a collection of 50 paintings. They ranged from her now renowned Flowers series consisting of Flower Bombs, Tulips, Drippy Poppys to abstracts with her Floats, Drippy Heats, Puzzles, to her muted landscapes. Said Kerri, “I let the colors direct my movement on the canvas.” That use of color has attracted a vast array of clients. And the clients keep coming with numerous collectors of Kerri Rosenthal Art globally, some with up to 30 pieces.
If one thing has come to define Kerri Rosenthal’s work, it is her use of color. As Kerri says, "Color is the driving force in my work. Color speaks to me; when it’s right, the colors dance and sing. It’s like the feeling of first love. That’s when I know the painting is complete.” Whether the deep contours of her Drippy Blue Series or the bright pastels of Puzzle Moderne Series, Kerri draws inspiration from both her daily travels passing through the vistas of the Saugatuck Valley as well as the beach areas of Long Island Sound as well as her years as CEO of CakeWalk, a subsidiary of Dutch fashion house, Oililly, famous for their virtuoso use of color. A serious book collector, Kerri’s many art & design books also provide endless ideas.
In the eight years since she first picked up the paintbrush, Kerri has created over 15 series of works. In addition, she has propelled her passion for color into a career in interior design. As Creative Director of D2 interiors, clients depend on her to not only create the art for their home, but to help craft its look and feel. Whether looking to add a bold splash of color to a room or creating a whimsical, bright space, Kerri enables her clients to bring their visions to life.
“I still can’t believe the whirlwind of the past seven years,” said Kerri. As a self-taught artist, I couldn’t have imagined how far painting would take me.”
Her work is currently shown at Dovecote (Westport), Pimlico (new Canaan), Nest Inspired home (Rye), Sandra Morgan Gallery (Greenwich). Kate Spade Home (NYC), Pure Photo among others.
