Outpost - Thousand Palms Oasis, CA
Between violent summer thunderstorms the sun breaks through to light the incredible landscapes of North America. For me Shadowlands are the vast empty and rugged areas that are illuminated by amazing light.
In these spaces the noise and confusion that accompanies Human presence fades away and life is reduced to its simplest components.
These moments of clarity and serenity are becoming ever more fleeting in a world populated by 7 billion souls. My purpose with these images is to share some part of a powerful range of sensations that I am lucky enough to experience first hand.
I am an educator and photographer working almost entirely in black and white. I was born and raised in Gibraltar and moved to the US in 1995. I currently live in Long Beach, California.
Images without color of natural and man made environments present a stark view of our world, one devoid of comfort and familiarity. In doing so they give us pause, thereby permitting exposure to, and consideration of, something more than just aesthetics and place.
With both our natural and urban environments facing danger and decay, giving pause to see what surrounds us and consPricinider our place in it is in some ways what drives my work.
